Organic Cotton
Many people are trying to “go organic” and this has led to the production of organic cotton. People are trying to produce and consume products that are made in the most environmentally friendly ways possible. The demand for a wider variety of organic products to be made readily available is growing every year. It only makes sense that one of the most common materials used for making fabric would be made organic as well.
Organic cotton is growing in popularity, and more organic cotton plants are cultivated each year. To be organic, the cotton plants must not be treated with chemical pesticides or fertilizers, and the plants themselves cannot be from genetically altered stock. There are many reasons people are so interested in organic cotton. A couple reasons are that conventional cotton production uses a lot of chemicals that pollute both the ground and the air, and some consumers have reactions to the chemical residue on the cotton.
While it costs more to produce, organic cotton production is seeing a yearly rise of about 50%. This is great news because it means more clean chemical-free cotton coming into our homes, and less chemicals going into the environment.
