Organic Chocolate
Organic chocolate, like any other organic food, is made using no synthetic chemicals. The plants are never genetically altered. Unlike other organic foods though, chocolate faces some unique issues and opportunities.
Since the trees from which cocoa beans come from grow in rainforest climates, there are ecological impacts that must be addressed. Everyone knows about the hazards that humans pose to rainforest ecosystems. So, not only do organic chocolate companies have to not use any synthetic chemicals in their operations, they also have to work to preserve the environment they work in. There are companies who have done a wonderful job of this. They are so unobtrusive that it isn’t unusual for them to find rainforest creatures lounging in their cocoa trees.
Chocolate is a staple in many people’s lives, and with organic chocolate becoming easier to make and get, we can all still enjoy our chocolate indulgences, and know we’re supporting the planet while we do.
